Annual report 2018 (Danish)
Temashop sells costumes and accessories for theme parties in Denmark and Sweden via its online shop. Temashop employs long-term unemployed people who struggle to find full-time jobs. By way of example, they employ people with hearing difficulties and offer their employees on-the-job train-ing.
Revenues amount to nearly DKK 30 million and they are working to expand their market to the rest of Scandinavia.
Temashop was part of Det Sociale Vækstprogram in the spring of 2016, with a primary focus on business development. In the autumn of 2016, Temashop received an investment from Den Sociale Kapitalfond of up to DKK 3 million, to help them hire more staff. They received the grant because they are potentially able to combine social and financial success, which is one of our key require-ments for investment.
Logistikkompagniet offers flexible in-house warehouse and logistics solutions for both public and private companies nationwide. Their clients include L’Oreal, REINTAN (Rema1000, 7-Eleven), Ford Motor Company and Postnord. Their solutions are innovative and their quality is excellent thanks to their 120+ employees, most of whom used to be marginalised or long-term claimants of unemployment benefits.
They have developed an innovative approach to successfully employing people on the fringes of the labour market. They use a special upskilling programme and a unique team leader approach to lo-gistics, thereby ensuring an unusual combination of high efficiency and stability in production, combined with a high degree of inclusion and job satisfaction among employees.
Following a difficult period in 2014, they are now back on the growth track, with increasing reve-nues, new customers, operational profitability and more employees, and they still have ample scope for growth and the creation of more jobs for marginalised groups. To help them reach their full po-tential, we invested DKK 3 million in their company.
Gamle Mursten is a leading company in the recycling of construction materials. They are committed to strengthening both environmental and social sustainability. They do this by cleaning old bricks using a patented semi-automatic factory method. Their factories are placed in Svendborg and Hede-husene. By recycling the bricks into new construction projects, they considerably cut CO2 emis-sions. On top of this, the majority of their production staff used to be long-term unemployed, in-cluding people with mental health issues. Gamle Mursten thus helps these people become part of the community, develop new skills and utilise their resources.
The effort to include people at the margins of society has increasingly become a defining part of the organisation’s identity. As they continue to develop, they want to expand this social impact even further. We have invested DKK 2.6 million in the company as equity and our management team and corporate partners have made a substantial investment to further develop their competencies. The goal is to develop Gamle Mursten’s professional social work, help the company grow and create even more jobs and opportunities for marginalised groups.
Bornholms Mosteri produces and delivers what is possibly Denmark’s best organic juice to several leading restaurants. They hire people with mental health issues and offer them the opportunity to be part of the Bornholm labour force. They use a special, slow production process with only the best raw ingredients producing juice of exceptional quality which has paved the way for impressive growth in recent years. Now their production and sale of juice are geared for growth on a sustaina-ble basis along with the number of employees they wish to take on.
Bornholms Mosteri originally started as a council employment scheme in 2006. However, in May 2013, the project was taken over by some of Bornholm’s leading companies: The Michelin star res-taurant Kadeau, Food company Espersen A/S and Ocean Prawns, Food company and owner of Svaneke Bryghus (Micro brewery). The take-over aimed to retain their employees, develop the company further and create even more employment opportunities for those in need, which was not possible with the project being managed by the council.
Den Sociale Kapitalfond began cooperating with Bornholms Mosteri and its new owners with an agreement to invest up to DKK 3 million. In addition, our management team and our corporate partners Accura and EY made a substantial commitment to collaborate with the organisation. To-gether with our partners we have helped support Bornholms Mosteri’s social mission under the new company structure. This partnership is based on the new owners’ know-how of the food industry and their dedication to what is called the “double bottom-line”.
Specialisterne, founded in 2004 by Thorkil Sonne, trains and employs people suffering from autism. They become IT consultants and with their sharp eye for detail, they test software and hardware functions and perform advanced data capture and data cleaning for private and public companies.
Specialisterne ApS has gained international recognition for its ground-breaking concept of seeing unique potential in a group of people who are otherwise often seen as disadvantaged, and using this potential to create exciting and meaningful jobs for them.
We have agreed to lend their company up to DKK 3 million. This investment aims to strengthen their business, their potential for organic growth and their market potential.
